INTACH National Heritage Quiz-2025: Quizzing Young Minds

On 30 October, the Apeejay School hall buzzed with young quizzers gathered for the INTACH National Heritage Quiz-2025. The annual event was organised by INTACH Calcutta Regional Chapter, venue partner Apeejay School, Park Street. The city and state level rounds were held in the day-long event. The Principal of Apeejay School Paromita Guha Roy, gave the inaugural welcome address to all participants. INTACH Murshidabad Chapter Convenor Mr. Balaknath Bhattacharjee graced the event. 

The heritage quiz drew participation from 38 students from 7 schools of Kolkata in city level and 6 students from 3 schools in state level, representing INTACH Calcutta, Hooghly and Murshidabad Chapters. Garden High School, Kolkata won the city level and qualified to represent INTACH Calcutta Chapter at the state level. Sargachi Ramakrishna Mission High School, Murshidabad won the state level and qualified to represent West Bengal Chapter at the National Level in the finals.

The heritage quiz questions for city and state level were compiled and conducted by quizmaster Ms. Smita Mehta, INTACH Life Member with support from Mr. Subash Baral (Senior Restorer, ICI), Mrs. Malti Dey Sahoo (office executive), ICI trainees Ms. Shrinati Ghosh and Mr. Prince Chakraborty – the experienced team of Calcutta Regional Chapter.

The city level quiz was conducted over one written and four verbal rounds; state level over five rounds. The questions covered the length and breadth of Indian heritage from ancient architecture, material heritage to living traditions with focus on learning before winning. The National Heritage Quiz is part of a massive pan-India initiative led by INTACH HECS and its regional chapters for national awareness. By engaging students in a competitive yet fun environment, INTACH aims to build a new generation of heritage ambassadors.
