INTACH Culinary Heritage Blue Plaque: Kaligodam’s Sweet Milestone

On 16 July, the INTACH Calcutta Regional Chapter added another legendary sweet shop to the city’s heritage map. The prestigious INTACH Heritage Culinary Recognition Blue Plaque was officially unveiled at Kaligodam – the heritage Indian sweet shop carrying tradition since 1928, on Mullick Street, Burrabazar, Kolkata’s historic business centre. The Blue Plaque honours Kaligodam’s enduring contribution to Kolkata’s iconic Indian sweet-making tradition. The unveiling took place in the presence of the shop’s proud owners and dedicated employees, marking a significant moment for one of the city’s most beloved sweet establishments. The event was graced by INTACH Calcutta Regional Chapter Convenor Mr. G.M. Kapur and attended by member Siddharth Sarkar, alongside a gathering of heritage enthusiasts. The atmosphere was joyful, with a crowd of loyal customers joining in to celebrate the shop that has been consistent for generations.

The INTACH Blue Plaque initiative aims to highlight heritage sites that continue to preserve the traditional culture and skills of India. By recognizing Kaligodam, INTACH underscores the connect between community identity, culinary tradition and historic architecture that is the soul of Kolkata.
