On 15 February, excitement and nostalgia ran high at The Alipore Museum during The Vintage & Classic Car & Bike Show-2026. Organized by Classic Drivers Club and Alipore Museum, the event transformed the historic museum premises into a grand spectacle of mechanical beauties on Sunday morning. In tandem, the INTACH Calcutta Chapter conferred the INTACH Heritage Automobile Recognition Awards honouring the dedicated owners and custodians who are keeping India’s motoring legacy alive. Mr. G.M. Kapur, Convenor of the INTACH Calcutta Chapter, presented the awards to the selected vintage and classic vehicle owners. While the 2026 show was a resounding success, this initiative took shape a year ago. The first INTACH Heritage Automobile Recognition was launched in 2025 during World Heritage Week (insert link: https://intachcalcutta.org/world-heritage-week-19-25-nov-2024-celebrating-bengals-living-heritage-organized-by-intach-west-bengal-and-calcutta-regional-chapter/).Award criteria: The awardees are chosen carefully. Each vehicle underwent a detailed screening and exhibition process conducted by the INTACH team. The criteria broadly focussed on maintaining the vehicle’s original character bearing its historical authenticity, preservation of unique engineering and design, maintaining its mechanical integrity and cultural impact, its role in the broader narrative of Indian heritage.
