On 7 March, INTACH Calcutta Chapter members with Convenor Mr. G.M. Kapur visited the recently inaugurated Charnock Lohia Hospital on Rabindra Sarani. Charnock Hospitals M.D. Mr. Prashant Sharma personally took all the INTACH visitors on an extensive walk and talk of the sprawling heritage property. Mr. Sharma shared details about the property’s conservation and repurposing methods used to make the hospital a more hospitable place. The facility is a positive example of maintaining and repurposing built heritage property for contemporary use. The visit was an interactive exchange between INTACH members and the hospital team. Members including Ms. Aditi Chatterjee, Mrs. Manjari Kaul, Mr. Kamal Banerjee, Ar. Sutapa Joti, Ms. Smita Mehta led by the Convenor shared their insights on architecture and built heritage conservation. The interactions also recalled the interesting anecdotes and history around the majestic estate and north Kolkata locality.
